Eating for My Brain
Healthy eating is more about my mind than my appearance…

Healthy eating is more about my mind than my appearance…
At least that’s what I try to focus on. Being prone to depression and anxiety, it’s important that I pay attention to what I’m putting in my body. Balancing my nutrition is the best thing i can do to keep my gut healthy and avoid “leaky gut syndrome” – when your gut releases toxins into your body from the foods you eat causing havoc on your mental health.
Do you ever feel sluggish after a weekend of eating out and drinking? Or have restless nights after a few consecutive days binging sugar or salty snacks? Do you ever experience extra irritability or moodiness when you know you've just been eating your feelings? It's a vicious cycle. When I'm experiencing these symptoms I know I need to get back on track. And that doesn't have to mean a complete overhaul of your diet!
I learned a lot about simple things I can add to my daily food choices when I tried Arbonne's 30 Days to Healthy Living program. It was during Covid quarantine and, like most everyone else, had been indulging in the quarantine diet. My friend Molly (aka The Nutrition Nurse) introduced me to this simple 30 day reset for my gut utilizing Arbonne products and some easy recipes. After I completed the 30 I wanted to continue incorporating some of the supplements and meal replacements in my regular day-to-day.
Since then, Arbonne’s nutrition products and supplements have become an essential addition to my daily diet. Here are a few products I love and why:
- GutHealth Digestion and Microbiome Support – Speaking of “leaky gut”… the GutHealth is a blend of prebiotics, probiotics and enzymes that support the digestion of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and lactose which in turn helps the digestive system function normally. It comes in a powder that pairs well with the BeWell Superfood Greens.
- BeWell Superfood Greens – A blend of 36 fruits and vegetables helps me stay on top of balancing my diet. I’m a big fan of keto, which doesn’t offer a lot of room for fruits or a ton of vegetables. So adding a daily dose of greens juice to my diet makes a huge difference that I can feel. I like to drink it after a workout and add an EnergyFizz, GutHealth, and MindHealth for a delicious superfood concoction.
- EnergyFizz Ginseng Energy Fizz Sticks – The EnergyFizz is a great replacement for coffee when you’re trying to cut back or for a quick afternoon boost of energy. Fizz sticks are made up of Ginseng Root, antioxidant Coenzyme Q10, Chromium and B vitamins (including Riboflavin and Niacin) is joined by naturally derived caffeine from Guarana and Green Tea. There are SO MANY FLAVORS to choose from!
- MindHealth Focus Super Powder – I add MindHealth to my daily BeWell Greens juice to add some tasty cherry flavor and to boost my memory, focus, and concentration. YES – I can tell a difference. Especially after using it for at least a week consistently.
- CleanTox Herbal Detox Tea – I’m a big fan of tea – hot and cold. Fortunately, this herbal tea is delicious both ways. The main ingredients are Milk Thistle, Peppermint, Dandelion, Sweet Fennel, Elder Flower, Nettle Leaf, Parsley, Uva Ursi and Licorice – all supporting kidney and liver function. I drink a lot of water so it’s nice to have something else to sip on with some flavor. Sometimes I’ll add a little lemon for a more refreshing twist. I especially like to drink it after a wine night with the girls or after a weekend of indulging in not-so-gut-friendly foods.
Other noteworthy products that I use regularly:
- InnerCalm Adaptogenic De-Stress Powder
- Omega-3 Plus (vegan capsules)
- FeelFit Pea Protein Shake (my favorite is Chocolate)
- BodyCleanse
Obviously, I love these products I described above. But you DO NOT need to invest in a bunch of supplements to start feeling better. And you don't have to make a bunch of changes all at once to get started... Actually, please don't do that! You'll end up overwhelmed and back to where you started (been there).
I once heard it is easier to add something to your routine than take something away. I've found that to be absolutely true. So if you're going to do anything, I would advice you to start with drinking more water. Water can help relieve fatigue, improve mental clarity, support your metabolism, and does wonders for your skin.
Get started with purchasing a new water bottle that you wouldn't mind lugging around with you everywhere you go. Then make it a goal to drink 2-3 bottles a day. Helpful tip: add lemon juice for flavor. 0 calories, sugar, carbs, etc. Just refreshing.
